Lehrstuhl Telekummunikation

Dear Colleagues,

Especially in new technologies such as ZigBee the information on feasibility and performance of the network is required prior to invest significant time and money. Even with available ZigBee nodes that may have to be obtained in large quantities and at high price, testing the network for desired application can be a time-consuming and difficult task. Simulation can facilitate to determine whether or not these time and financial investments are clever. Thus the simulation is the useful approach to developing and testing new protocols for ZigBee networks. There are a many advantages of this approach: lower cost, ease of implementation, and testing large-scale networks.

ZigBee has gained considerable importance and attention in the past few years. Hence, an inevitable need for developing simulation frameworks exists. I spend much of my time for supervision of my students working on modelling of ZigBee with ns-2 in last two years. Here I want to share our experience and invite your suggestions for investigations (marandin@ifn.et.tu-dresden.de).

In addition I want to specially thank my student Prakash Rao Vaddina who mainly contributed to this web page.

Sincerely,

Dimitri Marandin
